My Special Gift

By Vicki August

Noah is a Lesser Patagonian conure who came to live with me in October of 2000. I had been talking to a friend one evening and mentioned how I would love to have a Patagonian some day. What a coincidence since she just happened to know of a Patagonian conure that needed a good home.

It seems that Noah had been living in a Rubbermaid container in the back room of a large pet store. He had become sick and was not being kept with the other baby parrots. He had no toys or perches in his container and didn’t know how to perch. Even though he was no longer ill they were unable to move him into a cage due to the lack of space. I had also found out that Noah and my deceased Father share the same birthday. I took this as fate that he was supposed to me mine.

My good friend contacted the store, bought him, and took him home with her until the weather permitted safe shipping from Texas to Nebraska. When I arrived at the airport and finally laid eyes on him I fell in love with him instantly!

Noah has come a long way with his perching problems. Since he was kept on a flat surface without perches for the first six months of his life he didn’t know how to use his toes properly. With lots of "Birdie Physical Therapy" he now perches properly and gets around just great. I owe a very special thank you to my two wonderful friends who made this all possible for me. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! Noah and I love you both!
